The Woodshop

Recovery woodworking, often referred to as therapeutic woodworking, has gained recognition as a powerful tool for emotional and psychological healing. But we know that none of that is possible without the timbers of the cross, and the testimony of the blood of Jesus. Through that lens we use woodworking skills to create art, furniture, or other meaningful objects, providing individuals with a constructive and creative outlet for their emotions. The process of working with wood can be meditative and grounding, helping to reduce stress, improve focus, and foster a sense of accomplishment. For many, the act of shaping and crafting wood becomes a metaphor for the work of Christ shaping and healing their own lives.

In the context of Christ centered recovery, woodworking can take on an even deeper significance. woodworking often fosters a sense of community among participants. Workshops and group settings provide a supportive environment where individuals can share their experiences, offer encouragement, and build connections with others who are also on a path to recovery. This communal aspect can be particularly meaningful for those who feel isolated or disconnected due to their struggles. In this way, woodworking becomes not just a means of personal healing, but also a way to build and strengthen bonds within a supportive community.

The Woodshed

When people hear about a woodshed, they grin and think of discipline, but it’s also known as a path to discovery. The term is used in academia to test students and for musicians, it’s an escape for creativity. We chose our name to reflect the nature of our mission.  In dealing with addiction, it’s natural to try and recover what’s been lost, but it’s supernatural to discover what’s never been found.

Our executive director and house manager have been in over 10 rehab programs and experienced being reformed temporarily, but never transformed permanently. The Woodshed is a gospel-centered transformational men’s ministry that’s more than physical recovery, it’s spiritual discovery.
